Emergency Tree Removal After A Storm
What DFW property owners should do after fallen trees, split limbs, blocked access, and storm damage.
Start With Safety
Stay away from unstable limbs, damaged structures, vehicles under load, and utility concerns. Emergency tree work should start with what is blocked, damaged, or unsafe.
Document The Damage
Take photos from a safe distance, note blocked access points, and identify nearby structures before requesting help. Do not climb or cut a storm-damaged tree yourself.
Plan Follow-Up Work
After the urgent issue is handled, follow-up work may include trimming, removal, stump grinding, or debris cleanup to make the property usable again.
Utilities And Loaded Wood
Do not remove limbs on or near power lines. A fallen trunk, split union, uprooted root plate, or limb pinned against a roof or vehicle can shift without warning. Keep people and vehicles out of the drop and roll area, and use the utility provider or emergency services when their infrastructure or an immediate public danger is involved.
What To Share On The Call
Give the property city, what fell or split, what is blocked or damaged, whether utilities may be involved, and the safest available approach. If photos can be taken from a safe distance, include the whole tree, the damaged connection, nearby structures, and the access route. Never enter the hazard area just to document it.
Separate Stabilization From Restoration
The first scope may only address the unstable material or restore essential access. A later site review can cover remaining canopy damage, complete removal, stump grinding, debris handling, and restoration pruning. Keeping those phases distinct makes the urgent objective and the follow-up property plan clear.
